A short overview of the artist Jan Groenhart
I was born in 1952 and spent my childhood mostly in the special landscape of Wormer and Jisperveld.
The space, the light and the water that I have experienced there, was and still is of big influence on my work. At a young age I was fascinated and challenged to paint.
I love freedom but I didn't found that at school. At the Rietveld Academy I learnt the craft that I love so much. With everything that I learnt and experienced I developed myself in what I love to do most.
Every day I still find new challenges and possibilities to express myself.
I paint landscapes and still lifes which I admire in artists like Paul Cezanne (1839-1906) and Kees Verwey (1900-1995). I experimented with different materials and styles.
My studio is located in a warehouse between old factories in Wormer.
